GLOSSARY ICT

 

Shook               -Past of shake; An act of moving an object up and down from side to side with rapid forceful movement.

Whistling         - Produce a clear sound by breathing through a small hole between one’s lip or teeth

Dreadful          -causing or involving great suffering, fear or unhappiness.

Lantern            - A lamp with a transparent case protecting the flame or electric bulb

Dragged           - Pull someone or something along forcefully, roughly or with difficulty

Palette              - A thin board or slab on which an artist lays and mixes colours

Cord                  - Thick string

Offensive         - displeasure or something cause anger

Crumpled        - crushed or destroyed

Hesitated        – To pause or delay in making a decision

Ventured         - Act of taking risk

Protest             - Expression of objection or disapproval

Supposedly      - Used to indicate something is assumed to be true but there may be doubt.

Degrading        - Process of lowering in status , quantity or dignity

Cane                 - Stick made of wood often from bamboo

Wander            - To move about without a specific destination.

Adjourned        - To postpone

Secluded           -To being private, quiet in a remote place

Whisper             - To speak in a quiet tone.

Flared                   -To burn brightly and intensively.

Ferociously          - Violent or intense in nature.

Squatting              - Sit with one’s knees bent and one’s heels closed.

Batter                   - To beat repeatedly.

Blinking                - closing and opening one’s eyes quickly.

Startled                - Being suddenly surprised

Creaking              - Harsh sound

Sneak                   - To move or act in a secretive manner

Offend                  - To cause anger

Awkward             - Uncomfortable

Gasped                 - To inhase suddenly with effort to express a strong emotion

Astonishment     -Amazement

Admired               - To regard with respect

Intensely              - With strong feeling

Goodwill              - A positive feeling of regard

Dozen                   - Twelve in number

Mild                      - Gentle in nature

Rumble                - A deep, low and continuous sound

Beep                     - A short, high – pitch sound emitted by electronic equipment or sound horn

Echoed                 - Repeated sound or sound which comes after the original sound has stopped

Nook                     - A place of privacy or shelter

Tedious                - Too long

Bitterly                 - Intensely or strong .

Burying                 - Covering or hiding something.

Nightmare           - A distressing fear that cause fear or sadness during sleep.

airies                    -Small, Magical beings.

Hedges                 -Rows of bushes or plants planted close together
